Security For Birch Run Area Schools

Homeland Security awarded a federal grant to Saginaw County Schools for the purpose of making school buildings in the county safer. Twenty-five buildings were awarded a system where a camera and microphone was placed outside the main entrance door. When a visitor arrives at a school building they push a button which notifies the main office that they would like to enter the building. The office personnel will then electronically unlock the door after they have identified the individual requesting access to the building. Birch Run was fortunate to be awarded the federal grant to cover the cost of installation and equipment for each of the school buildings. The system is now activated and will be active during school hours. This system will add to the security of the buildings as we continue to look at ways to make our buildings as safe as possible for all students.
