7th & 8th Graders will be playing their Halloween Concert, BRHS Marching Band will be playing their Season in Review concert- all in one concert and it is FREE! 🐾💙💛🐾
Yesterday, the MGMS Student Council attended a leadership workshop in Frankenmuth. You can see in the pictures that students had a great time! They learned about group dynamics, communication, event planning, team building, time management, and more! Our students got to interact and learn from their peers at other schools as well. The seeds that are planted today will keep growing as the students progress! 🐾💙💛🐾

Thursday, Mr. Maksimchuk had a distinguished guest in his 21st Century Wars class, Mr. Andrew Morzinski, who was active duty stationed at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne from 2011-2015 and was in the Michigan National Guard from 2015-2018. He was deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait while in the Army. He came to speak to the students about his experiences in both humanitarian efforts he was a part of in the military, and his combat experiences. He was a medic in the Army National Guard.
He talked about how his world view was shocked when he initially got to Afghanistan and how many of his misconceptions were totally changed once he went.
Nowadays, Andrew plays for the Spirit Warriors Hockey Team which is connected to the Saginaw Spirit and provides veterans the opportunity to play for little or no cost.
We are proud to see our Birch Run Panthers and what they have done since graduation! Mr. Morzinski had some of the same teachers that the students in the class have now. Thank you for coming home and sharing your experiences with the students at BRHS!

To celebrate 75 years of Birch Run Football, the cross country team went on a Legacy Run, carrying a game ball across town gathering signatures from some of out oldest known alumni!
Where our legacy run took us...
• 📍 Stop 1: Ray Parlberg (Class of 1952)
• 📍 Stop 2: 7-Eleven where they meet up for coffee – Here we heard football stories that involved an 18 game winning streak from the legendary trio of Robert Letterman (Class of 1953), Glen Tanner (Class of 1954), and Claude Tanner (Class of 1956).
• 📍 Stop 3: Birch Run Fields Assisted Living – Our final leg brought us to visit Richard Letterman from the Class of 1945! We also had the honor of learning from the residents what high school was like for them while serving them donuts and cider.
• 📍 Stop 4: We relayed the ball to the Mausolf house for lunch. Shout out to the Koskinen's for helping with food!
The Cross Country Team connected our past to present and is setting the example for our future at Birch Run! Way to be!!! 💙💛

All donated items will be going to the CARE Program Dinners for Thanksgiving & to the 24 Hour Wilderness Zoo Community Cupboard! Let’s do THE MOST GOOD by donating the week of Nov. 2-6th!

Friday, Mr. Maksimchuk had a distinguished guest in his 21st Century Wars class, Mrs. Erinn Riedel who is a veteran of the Afghanistan War. She came to class to talk with the students about her experiences in the Army Reserves when she was deployed to Afghanistan. Students asked many questions & she talked about many topics including: what daily life was like on base at Bagram, assimilating back to civilian life, what her job was like as a transportation management coordinator, the landscape in Afghanistan, how the army reserves helped her to complete college, attacks that happened to her base, what communication was like with family back home, seeing President Obama speak, the capture of Osama bin Laden, boot camp, and much more.
One student asked what the biggest lesson she learned was. She said how small all of us are & how huge the world is, and that has given her perspective to the rest of her life.

Over 40 Seniors visited Delta College and SVSU to tour campuses, learn about the programs they each offer and options for their future!

Last Friday, Ms. Schultz & Ms. Burns had Dr. Ellis from the history department at University of Michigan, Flint in class. He visited to teach the English III classes about the Celtic Origins of Halloween. He spoke about folk traditions that go back to the same times as the Roman occupation of Europe and Britain. He taught the students about the Celtic seasonal traditions like harvest, bonfires, match making and more, as well as the mythical figures like the “Y Ladi Wen” and the “Hag” and the lore around them. He explained the history of how people brought traditions with them when they immigrated to the US and how that eventually developed into what we now call Halloween with costumes and trick or treating. This information all gives context to what students will be learning in English as they read the Crucible and Dr. Ellis will be coming back soon to teach about the Witch Lore and Witch Hunts. Thank you Dr. Ellis for bringing your expertise to Birch Run & enriching the learning! 💙💛
