Birch Run Students Bring the Heat at the Fire Arts Festival.
Last Friday, September 25, Birch Run High School students took their creativity out of the classroom and into the fire at the 2026 Frankenmuth Fire Arts Festival at Heritage Park. This hands-on field trip exposed students to traditional, heat-based art forms and real-world STEAM concepts. Guided by professional artisans, our students rolled up their sleeves for an unforgettable day of creation: Molten Metal Casting: Students designed custom 5"x5" scratch molds and watched them come to life during a live aluminum pour. Foundry in a Box: Getting hands-on with molten tin, students poured their own small metal molds, successfully casting detailed shapes like leaves, crosses, hearts, and stars. Traditional Craftsmanship: Students learned historical techniques by dipping wicks to create traditional wax candles, and displayed their own sculpting skills with highly detailed square relief tiles featuring botanical motifs and faces. Live Demonstrations: The day was rounded out by observing a skilled blacksmith hammering red-hot metal on an anvil, alongside live hot-glass demonstrations. A huge thank you to the Frankenmuth Arts Council for hosting this incredible event and helping build our students' creative confidence.
Finally, this unforgettable experience would not have been possible without the generous support of our community sponsors. Thank you to Sarah Archer of Iris Waist Diversions Specialists Inc, the Birch Run Rotary, and the Frankenmuth Credit Union for helping us bring the arts to life for our students!💙💛

Friday, Mr. Moliterno’s Biology class built water tower structures. This lesson combined problem solving, design, and having to budget and “purchase” the materials to complete the build. The students worked together in teams and each came up with their own design, with a test of how much weight the tower could hold at the end of class. Way to go, Mr. Moliterno for combining sciences with engineering and biology! 💙💛

Every Wednesday morning at MGMS, students have an advisory period where they do a different activity. This week, students had conversations about the things that happen every day at school that put a “wrinkle” in someone’s heart. Things were discussed from getting embarrassed, making mistakes, friends being mad at you, someone making fun of you, being left out, being rejected, the list goes on…Then the students discussed ways you can try to smooth out that wrinkle for someone to help them feel restored when something has gone wrong. Students talked about apologizing, asking them to sit with you so they aren't left out, complimenting them, helping them, and trying not to do things that hurt others in the first place. Students placed their band-aids on the heart as a symbol of their pledge to make an effort to keep this lesson in mind when interacting with others. 💙💛
On Wednesday, Roomie & Nova made a trip to Birch Run Fields to visit the residents and share some puppy love! 🐶

Session for Parents on raising resilient kids with Tracey Galgoci
at the same time....
a session for kids with author Johnathan Rand!
Parenting in a world of phones, gaming, social media, and screens can feel complicated. There are a lot of questions, a lot of opinions, and rarely one perfect answer.
That’s why we’re inviting parents and caregivers to join us for Raising Resilient Kids: Navigating the Pitfalls of a Screen-Based Childhood with Tracey Galgoci, MA, LPC.
This will be a practical, welcoming, and judgment-free conversation about raising kids in today’s digital world. Come as you are, bring your questions, and hear realistic ideas you can use with your own family.
There is no expectation to have it all figured out. This is a space for honest conversation, questions, and practical strategies that can work in real family life. You do not have children attending BR Schools to attend.
Refreshments & Door Prizes!

Yesterday, Mrs. Geister had a distinguished guest from the University of Michigan, Flint.
Dr. Saks came to the Government Classes to speak in depth about the Bill of Rights. Students came up with real life scenarios, and Dr. Saks discussed how the bill of rights applies in these different scenarios to better understand how the law is applied in real life. They discussed things like search and seizure, evidence, how technology has developed and changed case law, cell phones and supreme court cases, privacy, dress codes, and far more. Thank you Dr. Saks for spending time at BRHS today discussing real world applications of law with our Panthers!💙💛

Yesterday, Mrs. Cole’s Biology class learned about the structure of molecules by building marshmallow-cules! Each different color marshmallow represents a different element, the toothpicks are the bonds, and each structure represents a different molecule of a given chemical. Students built ethane, ethene, propane, and methane,. This is a great example of how the different sciences overlap and apply to one another. 💙💛

Did you know we have dogs on staff at Birch Run?! We have two service dogs who visit the students all throughout the year. Teachers can have Nova or Roomie visit their students. As you can imagine, they are the most popular staff members! Having Roomie & Nova help make our school more welcoming and they lift the students’ (and teachers!) spirits 💙💛

North Elementary had a team from the University of Michigan visit classrooms today to see movement breaks in action! Research shows that movement breaks prime the brain for learning by increasing attention and engagement. Thank you to Mrs. Tanner and Mrs. White for welcoming Dr. Hassan and her team to North. Birch Run Area Schools takes pride in initiatives that are supported by the Whole School. Whole Child. Whole Community (WSCC) Framework. 💙💛
